More deconstruction.

Posted 07-19-2011 at 10:10 PM by timzog

I was finally able to get a better look at the black and grey tanks. They both look intact and should be reusable. There is a lot of room under the floor though between the two main beams of the frame so I am thinking about putting the black tank completely under the floor. I found some black tanks (30 gallons) at PPL for $150 or so. That would also allow me to move the toilet further back in the corner. There is plenty of room to replumb the existing grey piping to put the shower about anywhere....

I got some help removing the non airstream streetside cabinet.

Then I removed the mostly original kitchen cabinets and counter. Some of it was in rough shape, but I saved all of the aluminum extrusion, the stove/oven, and sink. The sink and oven are available if anyone wants them.

Then I set my sights on the bathroom:

Leak proofing

Posted 07-08-2011 at 11:23 PM by timzog

Regardless of anything else, the first thing I ordered was window gasket material, adhesive, Vulkem, Parbond, and a vent pipe gasket. Hopefully I can stop the leaks and keep anything from getting worse. Any advice on installing the window and door gaskets is welcome.

How about a new floor?

Posted 07-08-2011 at 11:07 PM by timzog

So I removed the water tank today. I was concerned since the connection to the filling port was secured with what looked to be an entire can of foam and when I pulled up a board behind the tank, it looked like a termite nest.

Below the tank I found some really terrible rot.

I am actually quite amazed that it all held together since when I pushed on it slightly the whole foam/ aluminum sheet...

Actually doing some work!!

Posted 07-07-2011 at 11:31 AM by timzog

So I started ripping out old crappy stuff on Nina. So far I haven't found a single thing that was original and found that most everything the PO put in was held in by sheetrock screws. Thank God they only had 1 1/4"ers since a lot of them went right into the ribs or not and none of them penetrated the outer skin. Here are some pics of the progress. There are some pretty scary electrical installations and some pretty flimsy construction. A lot to do!!!
