More Galley Demo

Posted 11-15-2009 at 05:56 PM by Clyde-2
Continued demolition at the galley. Removed heater. Squirrel cage is completely full of dirt dober nests but still moves freely.

Water pump fires rite up but wouldn't move any water when bench tested. Started trying to disassemble it and the pot metal bolts started breaking. Time for a new quieter one!

All copper looks good, except for one spot where it burst due to freezing I'm sure. All new hoses where needed and should be good to go.

Houston....We have Separation

Posted 11-08-2009 at 05:45 PM by Clyde-2
Finally starting to work on the major sytems. Removing galley lower cabinet was not as bad as I thought it would be. Exterior of heater appears to be in good shape. Duct may have to be replaced. Water pump still works when its switch is thrown. Appears water leaks over the years have taken there toll. Most of the flooring will have to be replaced. Fun Fun.

Done With Interior Panels !!!!

Posted 11-01-2009 at 05:11 PM by Clyde-2
Finally buffed and installed the last of the interior panels that I am going to remove vinyl from. Decided to do just the front endcap section for now. Also installed the newly painted front screen and window trim sections.

The PO (neighbor) showed up the the original electric jack. He removed it when he parked the trailer 25 years ago. After pulling pulling the motor apart and cleaning it up, it worked !!! Going to need a new rocker switch as it only works in one direction. Don't...

Another Good Weekend of Progress

Posted 10-25-2009 at 04:57 PM by Clyde-2
Was able to install my new Fantastic Fan as well as the new polycarbonate skylight to replace the rotted one at the midship opening. I used the existing flat bars that the original double hulled skylight was riveted to. It lays right on them and then I mixed a good batch of JB Weld and glued it to it. I have found that paint mixing sticks work well when spreading and working Vulkem around roof penetrations.

Plan on installing a remote switch in the original style light cover for the...

More Progress

Posted 10-18-2009 at 06:34 PM by Clyde-2
Finally got around to cutting the plexi off of the Vista Views...what a difference. Took about 30 mins for both with a Dremel and a small drill bit.

More interior skin going back on. Have decided to only strip the vinyl off of the front end cap area. Vinyl is cleaning up pretty nicely. An all exposed aluminum interior will have to wait.

Going Back Together

Posted 10-04-2009 at 02:33 PM by Clyde-2
Finally getting to put a few pieces back together. Polished a small portion of the exterior to see if there is really shiny aluminum under there. This was not with Nuvite and has lots of filiform corrosion to be removed.

Underbelly Revealed

Posted 09-08-2009 at 06:18 PM by Clyde-2
Yes, the 8-track is working ! Waylon & Willie are jamming in the Stream. Only took one piece of folded cardboard to get them in tune and up to correct speed !!

Got both axles off easily. However it's going to be a bit tricky getting them out from underneath the trailer without cutting them in half as I didn't take into account the drum height when jacking up the trailer.

Pulled the main belly pan piece off to reveal the rats had been living comfortably for...

Houston...we have 12 volts !!

Posted 08-30-2009 at 06:52 PM by Clyde-2
Had some of the lights up and working yesterday but they quit. So today I started the quest to find out what the deal was.

I discovered the secret panel (under main bed) that hides the Univolt. To my surprise the Univolt looked like it had just came out of the box. All of the fuses were tested for continuity and were found to be good. 12v Lights were working spradically so I pulled each fuse, checked for corrosion, sprayed some PB blaster on connections and everything 12v started...

Secrets From The Underbelly

Posted 08-29-2009 at 08:18 PM by Clyde-2
Working my way from front to back dropping the underbelly and today got to the water holding tank. Needless to say there was 25 year old water still in the tank and it was actually pretty clean. Appears that the hose that attaches to the pickup tube had cracked and had let all that gravity would allow then when I moved it to my house it let some more out. Still had about a 1/3 of a tank. Not as bad as it looks. New plywood, POR-15 the steel and button it back up.

Univolt appears to...

Restoration Corporate Sponsorship

Posted 08-24-2009 at 06:53 PM by Clyde-2
I would just like to thank the good folks at DeWalt, Glen Livet, and Shiner Bock for there undying dedication and positive influence during the kick-off phase of this project.

On another note.....found a couple things I'm not sure what they are. I assume the large disk is a pad for either the tounge jack or a stabilizer jack. Not sure what the other is. And what is the 2 headed snake ? Some sort of circuit tester for the frige ??

1972 27' Overlander Restoration

Posted 08-23-2009 at 06:28 PM by Clyde-2
........and so it begins. Got the trailer towed from the neighbors house. One of the tires was completely rotted but the other three still had air in them. After some air in the tire next to the rotted one, we were able to get her home. Next step was to evaluate what I have to work with and start cleaning things up.
