After two days of deprivation we drove 360 miles into Sparks, Nevada to Sparks Marina RV Park, our swankiest spot yet. Hook-ups, astro-turf grass and cable TV. Beyond manicured. And very uncrowded, especially compared to Death Valley. We relaxed awhile, then walked a mile to get the kinks out.
Dinner at the Olive Garden and then a visit to a huge new mall, Legends, with its anchor store, Scheel’s All Sports—a place that makes Cabela’s look like a mom & pop sporting goods shop. Hey, they...

Into the Valley of Death.

It’s 6:30PM, Saturday, April 23. We find ourselves at 190 feet below sea level in a nice little campground called Furnace Creek, not far from Stovepipe Wells and Dante’s Ridge. Figure out where we are yet? That’s right, Death Valley National Park. We decided to avoid I-5 and take a longer but far more interesting route back to North Idaho.

It took us three days to clean pack, stow, clean, prep, pack and shut down the house and do the same with the SilverSpud. Then 335 miles and...

Posted 04-18-2010 at 11:40 PM by BillB44

It's time to re-locate to our log home in North Idaho. So we'll be packing up the 'Spud and rolling northward soon, with planned stops including Death Valley and Sisters, Oregon. Stay tuned.

The Home Stretch. Chelly to Show Low to La Quinta.

Posted 04-01-2010 at 01:19 PM by BillB44

We cleared out of the campground by 11A and set the Nuvi for Show Low, Arizona, a place in the mountains where temperatures look to be above freezing and the campground straddles a small lake.
KB read more Blood & Thunder as I drove and Nuvi navigated. Bad idea. It took us 28 miles down a road that led only to much consternation. Sometimes its idea of the best route and reality are at odds. Turning a trailer around on a desolate road is no easy task; have to find a cross road of some...

"It's so beautiful, it makes me cry."

Updated 06-14-2010 at 07:00 PM by BillB44 (correct two type-os)

(Several days since I wrote last. I’m pecking this out at our campground w/o wi-fi and will post when I can; probably tomorrow, the 29th or even the 30th. Anyway, this one will make up for lost time because I’m severely motivated. What we’ve seen the past two days was a fitting finale to the whole trip.)
Let me catch you up. We left Farmington around 10 A and drove thru sunshine and blue, if windy, skies. Yeaaa. Destination: Canyon De Chelly National Monument in the extreme NE corner of Airzona....
