1950 Liner "Weeble" - Mounting and plumbing the tanks

The post below is from September of 2017.

The tanks are mounted using 3/16 thick by 1.5" wide metal straps. We mounted the straps to angle steel mounted to the stringers. The straps are mounted with bolts and nuts welded on so you could get them out from underneath if needed.

I haven't been posting as we made progress so I am going to try and catch up with a few posts. We made big progress in August 2017, finishing off the tanks. The picture below is before fittings and the tops being attached.



We got 3 sheets of black ABS, 4'x8'. Two at 14" thick and one at 1/8". We drew out the template of what we wanted the tanks for be and cut them out of the 1/4" think sheet....

1950 Liner "Weeble" - Frame painted, wheel wells welded and floor cut

Since the last post, we put two coats of POR15 on the frame and painted the tongue, step and rear tube with silver and clear coat. We also squeezed it in to the shop.



Next step was to make new wheel wells. Starting with an 18 gauge steel sheet, we cut out the top and clamped it in a curve shape on a board. Playing with the shape some to get the right arch was fun.

It has been a while since we posted last. I spent last year saving money, planning out the 1950 rebuild and learning to weld. I bought a Miller MIG welder and built two desks for our house, refining my welding skills which were non-existent. I'll add a photo of the desks at the bottom.

Back to work on the airstream and made some progress. All 10 side windows are now in place.

When we got the airstream, one of the side windows was missing. I tried a few different tactics to make a new one but without a proper brake, I couldn't get a good 'u' channel. I took one of the original frames and hinge to a local metal company. Left it with them while they checked it out. Their fabricator basically said he wanted nothing to do with it.
