It looks great on the outside

The reason I started on the closet doors was because my wife forbade me from working on the AS until I did something with my other house. We just got married about a year and a half ago. I moved into her house and mine sat empty for about a year. Well not exactly empty! In fifteen years I had collected quite a bit of stuff. In early october 08 she got assigned to Dallas for Hurricane Ike damage duty for three months. Before she left we agreed that before she returned I would do my best to clean...

Finish the house first!

Posted 02-20-2009 at 08:05 PM by slvrlng (55 Flying Cloud #7909)
Off and on over the next few months I would go to my moms and check the trailer out. Finally I couldn't stand it and went by there there with tools in hand. Lets see, what do I want to take off first? I decided to start with the closet door. That would be easy! Well maybe not so easy, two layers of paint and you could barely see the screwheads. It took an hour to get them all out. I headed back home with the door in the van and once I got there found some really old stripper of my wife's. I started...

The Next Weekend

Posted 02-06-2009 at 09:21 PM by slvrlng (55 Flying Cloud #7909)
Once we got back to Atlanta I of course got on my laptop and I finally found out what we had bought. 1955 Flying Cloud ! California built whaletail! At that moment I realized that I was truly lucky and we had found something really special. During the next week I collected everything I could think of to get it roadworthy for the retrieval the next weekend. I got on the the phone and located some tires and wheels from a guy who had switched his on a fifth wheel. Four tires and white spoke wheels...

At last!

Posted 01-17-2009 at 09:52 PM by slvrlng (55 Flying Cloud #7909)
The next weekend we drove back to the hunt club and I finally got to meet the owner of the AS. They had already started to clean it out and there several bags of trash outside the door. Oh by the way that was the first time I had seen the door open! Of course the first thing I did was get my tape measure out and start marking it off!
Twenty-two feet bumper to ball! Well that started to narrow it down a little. While I started helping them clean my wife finds the serial #. 7909. Not being an...

A turn in my luck!!!

Posted 01-17-2009 at 08:39 PM by slvrlng (55 Flying Cloud #7909)
In february of 2008 we had our annual meeting for the hunt club and once again I asked the president what was going on with the AS since it was still sitting in the same spot. This time he told me that he had finally given the owner an ultimatum and it had to go since the gentleman had not paid his dues in now two years and he was getting sick of looking at it.I called the owner right then and he finally agreed to sell it rather than having to deal with it and the price was right !!! 500!!! We agreed...

For the next year!

Posted 01-17-2009 at 08:19 PM by slvrlng (55 Flying Cloud #7909)
I went hunting a few times over the course of the next year and each time I would see the president of the club I would ask him if he had found out about the AS( mainly because I needed to find something to stay in there rather than tent camp or stay in motels) and his answer was always" NO I need to do that". He finally got me the gentlemens number and I was able to at last talk to him. He tod me that he had to have at least 1500 and I told him that it was too high. But I never gave up...

The First Day

Posted 01-17-2009 at 08:04 PM by slvrlng (55 Flying Cloud #7909)
In February 2007 I was lucky enough to be invited to join a hunting club in the south-
eastern part of Georgia.I set up a time to go and check out the land and facilities with the president of the club.My son and I drove to the club which is about 2 hours from Atlanta. Upon arriving we pulled up to his house( the president lives at the club and works in the surrounding area) transfered to his vehicle and started on a tour of the place. Adjacent to his house is the club camp area, which contains...
