getting ready for spring more restoration

Posted 03-01-2009 at 03:15 PM by dreadydreame
We got the new black tank from inland installed here is a photo of my husband fiberglassing around the fillings.

We ended up needing a new thetford valve and new part that the hose attaches to. We got them from vts. We also had to get a new closet flange (toilet floor flange) because the old had the threads rusted off. here is the floor and cut out before we installed black tank.

our pockets are getting empty

Posted 01-30-2009 at 07:17 AM by dreadydreame
Well it's been a while since I last posted but we are waiting for parts right now.
We got the new toilet from VTS it's a sealand travel lite high toilet. Looks very well made. We tried to use the old floor flange but the threads that go into the black tank were rusted off. So we ordered a new one from VTS (it's on backorder) We looked for a threaded flange everywhere but only found that sealand makes them. We tried to make the old thetford valve work but it was broken and not usable so we...

today I hate my airstream

Posted 01-11-2009 at 02:42 PM by dreadydreame

The fridge is burping right now, and let me tell you it wasn't easy getting it out.
To start out we knew there were 4 bolts in the floor you can see from the outside compartment. We also knew there was an L shaped piece of aluminum on the side that held the counter top to it. We removed the overhead cabinets and the cabinet on top the counter. Then we got the side piece off and the counter up and...

update, a little more work done

Posted 01-03-2009 at 09:00 PM by dreadydreame
Well we got the new floor in the bathroom. it's a 2 ft section that we had to replace. We went with regular plywood (for floors) We painted it with por 15 to give it some more protection.
Getting it in was not an easy job. We realized it was either try to get it in in one piece by removing the belly skin and getting the skin up high enough to slide it in like some full monti's have done here. or cut in 2 and have a seem somewhere. After starting to remove the belly skin to the right of...

so much work getting done

Posted 12-23-2008 at 07:26 AM by dreadydreame
Since my last update I have painted the frame in the back with por 15 after using marine clean and metal ready on it. We decided to go with regular plywood because the treated wood we bought was a little tiny bit too thick and I read on the forums that the chemicals will eat away at the aluminum. We painted the wood with por 15, and it is cut, we just need to make sure the back end is not leaking at all before we put that in.

keeping water out! job number 1

Posted 12-07-2008 at 05:45 PM by dreadydreame
We have been busy everyday doing something with the trailer. The bathroom floor is gone, and I brushed the frame with a wire brush while we waited to get the por 15. It will be coated on the first nice day.

We were told to get the camper water tight before making any repairs so- we ordered window glazing and bulb seal from VTS, along with some vulkem 635 and parbond.
Here is me doing the bulb seal. In order to replace the top side Anthony had to unscrew hardware and hyperextend...

started restoration

Posted 11-29-2008 at 08:24 PM by dreadydreame
We have started our restoration (we are doing our best). So far we have removed the bathroom floor. The back 2 ft section. We removed the household toilet that the PO installed. We removed the tub and sink (to make repairs and paint). Getting the univolt out was a very tricky job as was removing the water heater. I think we will update both. We also need to get a battery, there was none in it.

here is how My husband got the univolt out using our camera to zoom in, so he could find...

after we got her home

Now that we have the overlander(Harmony is her name) home we did some looking and realized the bathroom floor needed to be replaced. We gutted out the toilet that was there. We took the banana wrap off the back section and removed the black water tank. The tank is very cracked around the drain and we will need a new one. Today we are removing the shower, a cabinet and hopefully the rear 2 ft or so of floor. We really know nothing about all this, only that we should do it carefully and keep reading...

our new baby

Posted 11-23-2008 at 07:55 AM by dreadydreame
My husband and I and the kids bought a 65 overlander off ebay. There were a few bumps in the road when we got worried about the seller being a scam. But all worked out well and the guy was a very nice man. We drove 5 hours west to pick her up and the drive home was an adventure. We stopped at out of doors mart and they were very very helpful. We did have lights on the way home but we did not have working breaks. The tires were God knows how old and cracked like crazy but they were tube tires and...
