Houston...we have 12 volts !!

Posted 08-30-2009 at 06:52 PM by Clyde-2
Had some of the lights up and working yesterday but they quit. So today I started the quest to find out what the deal was.

I discovered the secret panel (under main bed) that hides the Univolt. To my surprise the Univolt looked like it had just came out of the box. All of the fuses were tested for continuity and were found to be good. 12v Lights were working spradically so I pulled each fuse, checked for corrosion, sprayed some PB blaster on connections and everything 12v started...

Secrets From The Underbelly

Posted 08-29-2009 at 08:18 PM by Clyde-2
Working my way from front to back dropping the underbelly and today got to the water holding tank. Needless to say there was 25 year old water still in the tank and it was actually pretty clean. Appears that the hose that attaches to the pickup tube had cracked and had let all that gravity would allow then when I moved it to my house it let some more out. Still had about a 1/3 of a tank. Not as bad as it looks. New plywood, POR-15 the steel and button it back up.

Univolt appears to...

Part IIIa: Interlude

Posted 08-28-2009 at 04:50 AM by tbro
Hello Folks,

Obviously I haven't posted for awhile now so I thought I should post an interlude in the meanwhile.

I've been working on the main desk, both in construction and my current work load. we've been migrating our hosting system to virtual servers. Mostly it's been going smooth but I've been terribly busy and up until the wee hours of the morning, which ends up having me sleep during daylight hours mostly.

In short, I haven't had much time to...

Little bit of body work and . . .

Posted 08-24-2009 at 07:51 PM by Dakota's Mom
Quick update.

We removed the rub rails and banana wrap, got some floor cut out and replaced. DH got the floor bolted up and the skin re-riveted (is that a word?). I was on caulk cleanup duty. (Who said silicone caulk won't adhere to aluminum?)

While we had the rub rail and banana wrap off, we did a little body work. Reshaped the dent from the trailer's run through an Arkansas creekbed on it's trip to Kansas, before it came to live with us. With the new piece of floor...

Restoration Corporate Sponsorship

Posted 08-24-2009 at 06:53 PM by Clyde-2
I would just like to thank the good folks at DeWalt, Glen Livet, and Shiner Bock for there undying dedication and positive influence during the kick-off phase of this project.

On another note.....found a couple things I'm not sure what they are. I assume the large disk is a pad for either the tounge jack or a stabilizer jack. Not sure what the other is. And what is the 2 headed snake ? Some sort of circuit tester for the frige ??

The other side...

Posted 08-24-2009 at 01:06 AM by Bowmans
Well, we continued on our polishing of the other half of the Airstream last week. We have the roadside and rear end to complete. The roof is polished and we got almost all clearcoat stripped from what is left to polish. The roadside is about 2/3's polished as well. The picture below was taken before the upper portion was polished all the way to the rear endcap.

090613k - Tucson

Posted 08-23-2009 at 09:36 PM by chbocca (Toaster Travels)
A majestic place on our trip...Catalina State Park, inside the city of Tucson. Can you believe that?

Lots of highway construction on drive in...and, summer heat...but when we arrived, at near sunset...heaven!

Jack rabbit, road runners. Great ranger station. Just a beautiful place to camp. And the view...spectacular.

090613j - Las Cruces

Posted 08-23-2009 at 09:11 PM by chbocca (Toaster Travels)
On long drive to Las Cruces, south on US-25, we stopped briefly at Elephant Butte Lake State Park and drove through the town of Truth or Consequences...just could not resist names of either.

In Las Cruces, we stayed at the Las Cruces KOA, where we delighted in one of nicest pools on this trip. We enjoyed local Mexican food, winetasting at St. Clair Winery & Bistro, and charming Old Mesilla Village.

Design a camper around this-- operation finish wall covering removal!

Posted 08-23-2009 at 08:40 PM by bookstax (Design a camper around this-- the restoration saga of a 1975 24-foot Argosy)
Weather this weekend was quite conducive to working in the Argosy for pretty much the whole two days. I lost part of Saturday so I could drive my dad to pick up his camper from the dealer about an hour away. In return, I got to look at one of the new Shasta vintage-style trailers on the lot and concluded that my 34-year-old Argosy is in better shape!

Our two goals for this weekend were removal of wall covering and to start with removal of the orange trim from the dinette and bathroom...

090613i - Albuquerque

Posted 08-23-2009 at 08:16 PM by chbocca (Toaster Travels)
Sad to say, but at least on this trip we did not find much to be excited about in Albuquerque. We tried to explore the Historic Route 66 section along Central Avenue downtown, but could find little of the charm described in our guide book. Next, we visited Old Town, which was nice...listened to a local outdoor band, shopped a little...purchased our first bunch of hot dried peppers. But mostly, choose to stay at our campground, the Bernalillo KOA.

Just to be on safe side, I did replace...

1972 27' Overlander Restoration

Posted 08-23-2009 at 06:28 PM by Clyde-2
........and so it begins. Got the trailer towed from the neighbors house. One of the tires was completely rotted but the other three still had air in them. After some air in the tire next to the rotted one, we were able to get her home. Next step was to evaluate what I have to work with and start cleaning things up.

Airstream Window

Posted 08-20-2009 at 04:15 PM by clyde123
Where can I find a side window for a 1973?
30 inch I think.
My Airstream was hit and run, some damage to the front left corner, we hope to be able to bend back most of the damage. The window was open and was pushed into a tree. I was out of town, my wife was sick about it for a couple of days, actualy she still sick about it.
