steps and screens

Posted 07-28-2009 at 07:27 PM by Dakota's Mom
DH fixed the double steps so they feel more secure! Yay! Also bought screen and has been replacing throughout.

Scrubbed more walls - tried both Westley's Bleche Wite and Soft Scrub with bleach on vinyl - being careful to avoid exposed aluminum and rinsing well with water. Used a TSP solution for cleaning the "paneled" walls/doors.

Looking into several options for drapes. We're going for a lighter look, so think we'll stick with standard off-white, so it leaves...

Airstream Curtains

Posted 07-28-2009 at 01:57 PM by WRice
During the 1980's and 1990's there was someone in Paducah, Ky that made curtains for Airstreams. My parents would drive to Paducah from Nashville, TN several times to have curtains made. I now need to replace curtains for my B-190. My mother is now deceased and my Dad can not remember. Can anyone remember who this person is in Paducah and how to make contact????????

Thanks

Moving further on the restoration...

Posted 07-26-2009 at 08:44 PM by Bowmans
Well, we finished polishing and re-sealing the roof Friday. I am happy that I don't have to go back up there except for whatever we decide to do with the antenna. When I was polishing that area, I took a look at why it may not have been raising from the handle inside. When I took the metal bracket off that hides the gears, I got my answer. A bunch of plastic pieces fell out. Some looked like gear pieces, others just plastic chunks. I nicely placed the broken antenna back on its' holder for...

1979 International restore . . . slowly but surely . . .

Posted 07-25-2009 at 01:10 PM by Dakota's Mom
Replacement lenses/lights arrived and DH removed additional interior panels in rear sleeping area. I was of minimal help with my work schedule.

I had already vacumed the padding. Brought it in and gave it a go with some Tuff Stuff today, and it looks highly acceptable.

Windows with new gaskets are much more effective than with the old ones. Still have the one window that doesn't want to "let go" to deal with.

Indiana Trip...

Posted 07-24-2009 at 10:24 PM by Alwhisman
Just under 2400 miles and all is well. I had been wondering about my axles, but they did well. Northern Louisiana has some pretty rough roads, but nothing flying around or out of cabinets. And best of all, no broken dishes.

I had checked, and my axles sit at 0 degrees, but when I jack it up, they rotate down to 15 degrees. She still looks like a lowrider to me. Guess if I have to wonder about it, I'll just add axles replacement to the list, cant hurt.

BaseCamp Tent

Posted 07-22-2009 at 10:40 AM by kimlangin
Help - I have a 2007 Basecamp. The tent is great in fair weather. We enjoy the extra room and have it set up as a sitting area to use at night away from the bugs (with a couple of pillows near the stairs so they don't come in from underneath). I have been using the tent for 2 summers but now it has started to fall apart. I have a pole that is split and 4 rips that I have duck taped (looks great). In a strong rain storm, it leaks so bad I end up with 6 inches of water inside the tent. I know leaking...

1965 Safari

Posted 07-20-2009 at 08:59 PM by safari65WI
Finally did a little work on our project this last weekend! Peeled away all the old caulking around the windows and replaced it. We had found a waterstain near a swollen copper pipe and wasn't sure if it was new or old. Well, it rained and it was new!! Rob helped out (shirtless) and got a heck of a sunburn in about 1 hour's time!! Who'd a-thunk?!? Anyways, we went to 3 car shows last weekend & the previous weekend, so the old AS project was on hold, but he promised me that we would work...

Gasket on front window . . .

Posted 07-19-2009 at 09:16 PM by Dakota's Mom
Got the rock guard and front window off without any problems. Front window has new gaskets and is rehung. Awaiting the seals that are on order for the rock guard.

DH is still trying to decide what to do about the streetside rear window that doesn't want to come off. Might be different if we hadn't done at least 4 windows before this one and 3 more since he first tried to remove it; might think it was just something we were doing incorrectly. He's not excited about the possibility of...

090613h - Santa Fe

Posted 07-19-2009 at 09:05 PM by chbocca (Toaster Travels)
Well, five nights in the Bambi and we were ready for night in a hotel. Plus, we were celebrating a wedding anniversary. So, kinda last minute, we checked out Santa Fe hotels in our Lonely Planet Guide...Santa Fe, Taos & Albuquerque. Top of list we found within walking distance of historic district: Inn on the Alemeda. Made call and they had dog friendly room available. Booked it.

Parking was a bit of challenge, but managed (thanks to small size of Bambi) and then we checked into...

Maiden Voyage

Posted 07-19-2009 at 07:09 PM by nd48463
I got the silver-streamer ready enough to go on its maiden voyage of the July 4th weekend. It was rather uneventful, and the new layout worked awesome! I installed maple laminate floors in the front along with an oak dinette that converts to a King size bed! New custom cushion foam, and upholstery. I learned how to sew and made the covers myself! I also sewed new curtains for the front and rear. I scored big on ebay and got 20 yards of premium upholstery fabric for $40! I also removed the...

Mysterious cutout in subfloor

Posted 07-15-2009 at 07:44 PM by 82 34Limited
Hey folks, I have a 1982 34 foot Limited that I bought a month ago. I am in the middle of refurbish. There is a rectangular cutout in the subfloor, just at the bottom of the closet base, but it comes out into the hall a little. There is no heat ductwork around this. I am ready to put new bamboo flooring in. Not sure if I can totally cover this or is it something that needs a relieve vent. The previous owners had already taken the carpet out, and they don't remember anything being there.
Any...
