Southern Saskatchewan Trip June 2009 - 3 Cypress Hills

Posted 06-30-2009 at 11:39 PM by bolerama
Updated 06-30-2009 at 11:41 PM by bolerama (trying to add pics AGAIN)
Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park crosses the Saskatchewan-Alberta border. It is the highest point east of the Rocky Mountains. Perhaps because of its altitude, it has virtually no mosquitoes! That made for some lovely outings, since the mosquito is the provincial bird of Saskatchewan!

The hills are covered with a 100-year-old lodgepole pine forest. The height of the trees is amazing, and so was the scent of pine. Hiking can be strenuous at times up the hills, but well worth it....

Southern Saskatchewan Trip June 2009 - 4 Cypress Hills Winery

Near the Cypress Hills I.P. Park is a winery...yes, a winery on the prairies! They converted their ranch to a winery after the BSE crisis a few years ago. It is like a little oasis surrounded by rolling rugged ranchland. After a wine-tasting, you can head to the patio for a tasty lunch. It was priced well, and the wines were surprisingly good. You can get grape wine, but also more local specialties like Saskatoon Berry, rhubarb wine (their top seller), chokecherry, and even mead!

Southern Saskatchewan Trip June 2009 - 2 Cypress Hills

Posted 06-30-2009 at 10:55 PM by bolerama
It started to rain our first night in Sask Landing Provincial Park. We headed out the Cypress Hills in the rain. And boy did it rain! The media called it the "billion dollar rain" since we were in a drought until that time. Our 2008 Airstream did not fare too well. We had leaks in the front window and from the skylight. The skylight had cracks where is was screwed down too tightly. We had a new one on order (for SIX weeks from our dealer) but it didn't arrive in time. "Timely fashion"...

Southern Saskatchewan Trip June 2009 - 1 Sask Landing

Posted 06-30-2009 at 10:14 PM by bolerama
From Saskatoon, our first stop was Sask Landing Provincial Park. We were in the overflow area, so we had no water or power, but the site was beautiful. We were on the river, so through the shrubbery, we had a wide expanse of beach. Goliath, our Chesapeake Bay Retriever, had a great run and swim. Daisy, our Shih Tzu, never understands Goliath's zeal for the beach. He was "dog-tired" after his romp.

Unfortunately, it started to rain during the night and we had to pack up in...

090613b - Flagstaff

Posted 06-28-2009 at 12:47 PM by chbocca (Toaster Travels)
One of our favorite towns.

On this trip, we actually discovered KOA, which stands for "Kampgrounds of America (KOA)." We'd seen them previously but for some reason never stayed there...until now. The Flagstaff KOA is a flagship KOA - it was just great! The setting, their friendliness, the little wonderful events, like popcorn and root beer floats at free movie time, (often) free pancake breakfast, etc. We are now members and find KOA very, very convenient - the President's...

090613a - Needles

Posted 06-28-2009 at 12:08 PM by chbocca (Toaster Travels)
We just finished our longest adventure in the Bambi - 13 days with some 18 planned stops and 2200 miles - a Southwestern tour.

Attached is a map of our trip, which took us through Needles, Flagstaff, Gallup, Durango, Taos, Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Las Cruces, Tucson, Scottsdale, and Blythe.

Our first stay was Needles at the good Needles Marina Park. We've stayed here back in 2006 on our trip to Yosemite. Did not disappoint. Our campsite was again along the grass on the...

screen door slide

Posted 06-28-2009 at 08:34 AM by Jasper_pilot
I have a 74 safari and I'm looking for the plastic slide that goes on the screen door to cover up the latch hole. I have no idea what it looks like all I know is that you can not open the exterior door with out yanking on it, as the screen door latch hold the door shut. Does some one have a picture of what this slide looks like and any idea where I can get one.

Today I got the center belly pan drop and the wheel wells out .. I am going to be able to reuse the front pan only as the back was badly patched up ,all of the sides will also have to be redone due to the outriggers poking through .. no more walking on iron I was beginning to feel like an iron worker ... drilled out some rivets today... The wells will have to be touched up... .. stain...

090523 Camp Oaks

Posted 06-27-2009 at 10:34 PM by chbocca (Toaster Travels)
A perfect stay at this year's Riverside Telescope Makers Conference (RTMC) Astronomy Expo. Held at YMCA Camp Oakes, five miles southeast of Big Bear City, California on State Route 38 at Lake Williams Road.

Our campsite, right on the pond, near the stables...awesome. We enjoyed wonderful weather and new moon dark skies, great for observing nebula through our 8" Celestron and seeing the Milky Way. A welcomed change after last year's snow...yep, 4" over Memorial Day weekend,...

I cannot get the tongue jack to work

Posted 06-24-2009 at 08:52 PM by janrandall
I have a 2 year old 25' classic. Never had any problem till now, the tongue went up, after hitching to silverado, then I could not get the tongue to go down to unhitch. (it goes up, but not down). Power is still available, because it goes up, but I get no response when I pull switch forward. I'm going away for the week, trailer is on jack stands, but not to the level I need. Plus I know if I tried to back the truck up (if trailer at right level, I'm afraid the jach stands will be puched over.)...

Ready to Scream!

Posted 06-23-2009 at 10:36 AM by tdturn2
Confessions of a Renovation Greenhorn

We've got the old Sovereign about 97% gutted, ready to remove and replace the floor boards.

Those floor bolts are kicking our butts! We've been without electricity, using cordless drills - nothing. Manual screwdrivers - nothing. Ratchet sets - nothing. WD-40 - nothing.

We really don't want to saw the wood to pieces and try to cut the bolts off. I'm gonna search around the forums and see if we have to.

Here's...

Posted 06-23-2009 at 07:23 AM by stain
Well I should be installing the sheeting for the floor this week.. I have done two coats of spar varnish and will be apply the third coat after they are installed...I will be using 3/4 inch plywood on top of bubble foil insulation..I will be leaving the back sheet off for any plumbing that needs to be installed. after removing all the delaminated plywood the trailer smells a lot better ...I have also removed the bottom row of panels and insulation.. I am going to restore her as close to vintage...

Posted 06-22-2009 at 01:41 AM by brunoffrance (Airstream, Harley-davidson and the american dream in france)
After the new water heater, now mounted, I' ve decided , this year to do something for the bathroom... Sure, the old bath and the wash bassin have the genuine color awy and , even with a good cleaning and maintenance, they no more look great.
The idea for a low cost is: to paint them... but not with classi paint that 'ld gone away as the water arrive but the new resin paint that becam very strong whan dry and have the appearence of enameled porcelein.
the choice of color: simply...
