Day 8 of the 2010 trip

Posted 08-28-2010 at 12:19 PM by HiHoAgRV

Moving day. Today we packed up and drove 30 miles from Gros Ventre (Pronounced “Grow Vont”) to Colter Bay Campground, $20 a night for no hookups. It would be a great place IF the campsites weren’t parking spots parallel to the loop. Because of our length, we were placed in loop K with the huge motorhomes and 5th wheels. Looking out the left side windows we can wave to the (few) vehicles as they pass 6 feet away. But looking out the right side…all we see is a spruce forest. We found out if we close...

Day 7 of the 2010 Trip

Posted 08-26-2010 at 06:31 PM by HiHoAgRV

Play day…

The initial plan was to find a field to play ball with Mac – he could use some exercise – then go into Jackson by mid day for some exercise on the credit cards…

Well, that was the plan anyway…

We ended up watching some Deer out near Kelly Hot Springs, hiking up a small hill, then wandering ‘down the road’…

The “road” was a 1 lane dirt Forest Service Road that climbed to the top of Shadow Mountain (8,500 feet). From the top we could...

Day 6 of the 2010 trip

Posted 08-26-2010 at 06:09 PM by HiHoAgRV

Today we made the long haul from Kozy Camp, thru Jackson and on to Gros Ventre (43 deg 36’ 58.35” by 110 deg 39’ 59.93”), 30 something miles…The southern route into Jackson HAS to be one of the most beautiful routes in the entire USA. We start off with the Hobac river and arrive in Jackson with the Snake. We followed a new ‘Stream into town but never got a look at the tow vehicle.

The Camp Hostess said we arrived about 2 hours after a large moose walked thru the campground. We will...

Day 5 of the 2010 trip

Posted 08-25-2010 at 07:59 PM by HiHoAgRV

Brrrr. I dunno what we were thinking last night. The Rawlins KOA was a nice 70 degreeish when we went inside before sunset so we didn’t bother closing all of the windows…a little fresh air is good for the things that ail ya, right? Well fresh air in the low 40’s makes for a chilly awakening. Needless to say it didn’t take long for us to get moving and we were on the road by 8:30. Rock Springs was our jump off point – no hookups for a few nights from here on so we stopped for fuel, gas for the generators,...

Day 4 2010 all over

Posted 08-23-2010 at 09:35 PM by HiHoAgRV

Yesterday I posted as day 4...actually TODAY is day 4...vacation must be working, where did I leave my watch?

Left Bonny State Park having seen no official or campground host. Only had maybe two campers in the whole campground. From Hale we traveled to Rawlins WY, a short, long day...

I think the wind was against us all day. Between climbing from 4,200 ft to almost 9,000 feet then back to 6,200 feet and a HOWLING nose wind, we probably dropped to below 11 mpg at 65 mph....
