Texas Piney Woods Rally

Posted 11-11-2011 at 07:14 AM by HiHoAgRV

Off on another adventure...and another blog entry!

Departed Mississippi around sunset hoping to make it 1/2 to Lake Sam Rayburn before calling it a night, we decided to stop in Ruston LA and see if we could find the state park, Lincoln State park or something like that...of course we arrived after the gates were closed and had to weave thru an unfamiliar area, parking in the dark. Sunrise brought a very pleasant surprise...this place is NICE.

We will have to come back...

Call off the assault landing...we have been rescued! Finally (drats) able (had) to leave Ft Pickens. They opened the road at 1:00 this afternoon for convoys to leave the park.

Local Media has covered the plight of us 'stranded' campers and was on site as we Q'd up to be escorted back to civilization...

We actually hated to leave, the weather was stunning...

Stranded? well, technically...

https://www.pnj.com/article/20110905/...er-beach-roads
From the article...
About 70 campers in 41 campsites remain stranded in the Fort Pickens campground today after Tropical
Storm Lee's storm surge and high surf pushed several feet of sand onto the only road in and out of the park.

About three miles of the road is impassable, Park Ranger DeeDee Mladucky said.

Just another day in Paradise

Posted 09-04-2011 at 06:34 PM by HiHoAgRV

At 10:00 am the Park Rangers made visits to let us know it will be a day or two before the only exit road from Ft Pickens Campground will be passable. It seems this mornings attempt at clearing, resulted in stuck equipment...

We totally didn't see that coming...

After making sure we had food and no medical needs, they did a head count, smiled and drove around the electric sign and into the sand dunes...

So, us and another 40ish campers are marooned...
