So, on to the reason il Carriaggio was in the shop in the first place, the axles! Here you see the stiff old axles removed.

I've read a lot on various threads about how people feel that quality (and quality control) has gone down at Airstream. Technically my trailer doesn't say anything about Airstream in 1975 since it was built at Versailles rather than Jackson...

So, in the previous post I detailed some of the work my Argosy needed, and here I'll spend some keystrokes documenting the work on the leaks. I'm only allowed 10 images per post so I'll do yet another entry for the axles!

I had been planning to replace the axles and tires before our trip to Albuquerque for the Balloon Fiesta in October. The axle work is what I'd scheduled with Lance in advance.

We postponed the work for a bit because the first pair of axles had the...

Axles and tires and bubbles

Note: As I was writing this, it got a bit long, so I'm going to break it into 2 posts, one describing the condition of my Argosy before these upgrades, and another detailing the work itself.

So, while I was installing my new BAL stabilizers a few months ago, I lifted the trailer up and could no longer live in denial of the need for new axles for il Carriaggio. It was clear that the axles barely moved at all when I took the load off them, which I had kinda suspected from watching...

So, I should use this blog more regularly, to track the care and feeding of Il Carriaggio. I'll try to catch up on some work I've done or had done in the recent past, but first I'll document what's fresh in my mind.

Yesterday (14 April 2012) I started the process of securing the belly pan which I discovered in Mineola to be loose at a bunch of rivet points. I was putting the stabilizers under the trailer and saw that the belly skin had pulled loose in several places. It's the common...

A minor upgrade

So you've seen the dog in my avatar photo. She's not very "screen friendly" since she's both clumsy AND the sort of dog who'll scratch at the door if she hears something outside. (Being clumsy she might also head-butt the door on her way to scratch at it!)

The PO of our Argosy did a nice job re-screening the screen door, and I don't particularly want to have to add that to my to-do list so I bought one of those nice screen-door protectors from Out of Doors Mart. ...
