Days 3 - 7 (prob more)

Posted 10-13-2017 at 10:25 AM by lilsheepdog

So the shell is up and off and the trailer is now out from underneath. I removed the subfloor and became confused. I'm posting a thread to ask for help. Come to find out, someone (prob not the previous owner) did something strange on the back. I know Argosys are known for being AS science experiments, but I don't get this one. It looks reinforced but that's actually where it failed.

Regardless, today the frame is off to the sandblaster and will come back all pretty. Since...

Day 2

Posted 09-07-2017 at 07:46 PM by lilsheepdog

I was determined not to stall on the tough parts. With the PO already framing the inside and cutting away most of the subfloor away from the shell, I went ahead and started jacking her up! I've attached pictures.

Day 3 (today because yesterday had to be a hurricane prep day) was more of the same. She's now jacked up more and I'll be picking up 3 2x6x12s to put the shell up on and propping on saw horses so I can pull and start working on the frame. I also cut the wires so there's...

Day 1, Whoo-Hoo!!!!!

Posted 09-02-2017 at 07:41 PM by lilsheepdog

FINALLY she has been moved to the warehouse space! I'm so happy, I can't stand it..... but then one of the outriggers gave way. Oy. Shell off it is!

We were able to jump the power jack using a jump box and we rigged up the brake lights from the cut wires so other than the lack of a tag, we were pretty close to legal!

The axles and tires actually held up on the 33 mile ride very well. I emptied her and I've got a plan for tomorrow.

Day 0.5

I am still waiting to have her moved so, I've been doing shopping and research. But today, I pulled out all of the stuff that had been collected by the PO and put back in the Argo. For a model that is so known for its rivets, there are a helluva lotta screws I posted a few pictures to show the smaller bits that I went through. It was fun and has inspired me to suggest starting a spot in the forum where people can ask "What the Heck Is This" and the veterans can respond. Also...

Argosy Adventures in (in)Sanity

Posted 07-29-2017 at 07:45 AM by lilsheepdog

I have wanted a camper for hunting, bugging (lobster), and yes, camping too. We are two very busy people with adult kids and grandchildren and teenage kids and very demanding jobs. I had a motorcycle that wasn't being used so I sold it to pay for this, a 1975 Airstream Argosy. I too fell in love with the steel end caps that provided such pretty windows. I also liked the idea of paint schemes though I would love a shiny one one day that will reflect the beauty of our surroundings. I always...
