Thread ID # from Post ID #

Up in the address bar on my IE there is the url of whatever web page is on my screen at a given point in time...right?

When I access a thread from the "last 25" section of the main interface that url always indicates only the post #. No matter which post in the thread I happen to be viewing.

But

If I access a thread by means of a search, the url displays a thread#. ???go figure
Also if I browse using the forum interface I get the thread ID#.
Its' just that the "Last 25" is the most convienient or at least I'm in the habit of using it to browse.

I much prefer thread numbers when I am entering worthwhile threads into my notes.

Is there a simple way to determine the thread # when the post# only is showing in the url?

BTW am I safe to assume that the thread # is static and will never change ?

Lastly does this forum software have a feature available where a "go to" box could be placed on interface and just a thread # could be entered to transport to that particular thread?
I think that would be a useful and practical tool.

Thanks
