Brian, one thing I completely forgot to mention last night when we were talking. The red wire that attaches to the light socket connects to a green wire inside the shell with a crimp connector. You might try to gently pull the red wire and see if you can pull that connector out and test from the green wire end. I have a picture of that wire, but it's not a really good picture. Let me know if you want me post it here.
