The years 1966-1968 were all very similar, so I don't think you should limit comparing yourself to just one year.
It does seem true that the shorter trailers seem to have more "sex appeal" as you put it, but I love my 26' Overlander, and the Ambassador is even bigger than that!
Anyway, take a look around for owners of '66-'68 Ambassadors, and you'll find those who are like-minded. There are quite a few on this board. Also, if you have any pictures of the work you've done to your trailer, we'd love to see them.
