The pilot flame will get larger and yellow when you turn the oven on. When you turn the oven on the pilot light gets larger to heat the thermocouple which opens the valve to allow the oven burner to ignite. Once the thermostat is satisfied the burner will shut off, but the pilot will remain large and yellow to keep the thermocouple heated for future heating cycles to keep the oven up to temperature. When you turn the oven off the pilot light should go back to its standby state which is smallish and blue.
