The thermocouple on the water heater in the house went out a couple of years ago. When I removed it, the "flame end" was badly burned and it was obviously done for. When I put the new one on, the other end (the end that connects to the thermostat) didn't want to make a tight connection to the thermostat. I had to remove and reinstall it to get a good fit. If yours fits like a household water heater, you might check those things.
