 Tire Age
I recently read some reports online about catastrophic tire failure that they concluded was caused by aging of stored tires. They reported failures with both tires stored by owners and put back on the vehicle and failures of tires that had been sold as new by a dealer but had actually been stored by the dealer for a good while before they were sold. The failure was apparently due to changes within the rubber of the tire over time. I don't believe any of the tires were Michelin, I think they were US companies. The article showed how you can read the manufacture date off of any tire before you buy it. I will try to find the reports. I have them filed somewhere. I suspect that tires sitting on your vehicle for too long will have the same problem.
