I re-did the Dometic in my Avion by completely stripping the doors down and sandblasting the frame. It also included a thorough cleaning from years of neglect. ('74) The door frames all came apart and were degreased, etch primed and painted black. I made my own faux "stainless steel" inserts by getting the same panel thickness that was in it and getting 24" aluminum flashing from a big box home repair. I just used a good spray adhesive for both surfaces and my fridge now looks modern and brand new on the outside.
