FM antenna?

Anyone know a source for this antenna? I need two of them. Either type would be fine.

The Overlander antenna is extendable, like old car antennae.



The Caravel antenna is just one piece of stiff rod with a ball end.

All I can find are CB-type. None with the original mounting swivel and spring.

Try an auto parts store. The universal swivel-base antenna should stil be available. It will be a not-bendable one.

Found it at NAPA back in the summer. It was in stock at my local store so it must be commonly available. Our store is kinda small. The one I got is extendable.

I don't have the packaging with the part # anymore but I originally saw that in another thread post so maybe you could find that.

Hi Zep, glad to see you made it back in one piece. I too could use a new one of these for our 69. It is identical. Be forewarned that on both our 69 and the 66 we traded with Rob, the antennas were installed with pan head machine screws with lock washers and nuts on the inside, so in both cases it required removal of interior skin to get to. None of the autoparts stores or radio shack had anything close here.

Not sure if you still have the bases on the trailers. Our antenna was just rusted and bent up. Found one at Auto Zone that has the ball and spring base with an AM booster coil on the extendable shaft. Attached it using the old base and half the ball that will stay with it attached to the new antenna using half of its ball.

Ganglin, do you happen to know the part number at autozone? Pretty new company in our area (they just moved into town last year) but didn't see anything on the shelves here.

Looks good, from what I can see, except that for FM reception around 90 mHz, the antenna whip needs to be 62 inches (95% of the half-wave length) or so.

Anyone know what year Airstream went to one antenna (the TV type) for both radio and TV? I know it was '73 or later.

By the way, as we all know NPR stations hover in the 88.5 to 91.5 mHz range. Is there anything else worth listening to?

Hi Roger, I am very much into XM--besides the music, NPR, Cspan and they have the old radio shows--like "Our Miss Brooks" and stuff we listened to before we had TV (Televisions not Tow Vehicles) or were even born. Now I guess that dates me doesn't it?

When I was a kid, the trick was to have the bedside [tube] radio under the bed and turn it on after your were sent to bed. Then you could listen, very quietly, to X-1, Fibber McGee and Molly, Jack Benny and Rodchester, Gunsmoke (Matt Dillon played by William Conrad), and every kind of dective show... we didn't have TV in Europe in the 50s. Thank Dog.

By the way, my partner is "Miss Brooks"--same glasses.

And yes, Fibber McGee & Molly and the others you mention....they even have the old ads on XM........anyway, we are making room for XM in our new old soon to be finished trailer...and we are keeping our old FM antenna as well.....pj

Yes, AM late evenings in the summer. Where our trailer is currently parked outside of Columbus - antenna fully extended and the right weather... I've picked up Chicago, Atlanta, Charlotte, St. Louis, Richmond, Nashville, NY,
a station out of Canada and others in between. I think it's a left over childhood thing also.

If your ride is a classic AS TT, why not listen to a "classic" type of radio: a good AM station?

Two based in Toronto, and broadcast with enough strength that they can be picked up well into the US are AM680 and AM740.

Give them a try, no matter how far south you are of us, especially at night: you just might be pleasantly surprised!

I have purchased many items here. I have the whole collection of Jack Benny (939), Fibber McGee (733), Gildersleeve (510), a couple of Burns/Allen (274) and You Bet Your LIfe (131) programs. I would love to have more Burns/Allen but they are tough to find. The programs are in MP3 format. It's pretty wild to have 90 MP3 half hour programs on one disk.
BTW - you should turn off the FM and come back to the AM side of things and listen to real radio

OK so the memory is bad - not Auto Zone - it's Advance Auto Parts (they're on oppposite corners in our little burg).

Antenna is a Metra Universal - Part Number AT US 23. Price is right at $10.00 - especially since your throwing a bunch of it away. Zep - the shaft extension is 53" max..
