| Removing the Armstrong AC unit
Removing the Armstrong AC unit was a slow task. It takes time to dig out 150 sheetmetal screws. This unit was mounted with lots of screws and more roof caulking. The heat gun softens the caulking enough to remove the coating over the screws. The good old DeWalt drill/driver removed the screws quickly. There are also wires to cut for the t-stat control and the romex wiring for AC power. It was a bit of a chore to slide the unit off the roof on a piece of 1/4 inch plywood down a ladder. The new unit, a Coleman, is a little heavier, so some structual engineering is needed. The span on our '79 Land Yacht 31 ft is 43 inches between ribs. My first thot is to brace above roof line. The interior ceiling is very fragile. The support material will be some 1 inch square tubing with 1/8 inch wall thickness. I just love a good challenge.
