Sram p5

I like can hubs. I like riding them; I like fussing with them.
Can hubs, for the curious, is another name for old three speed hubs, except they aren't all three speeds. They are, in fact, available in 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 12, and 14 speeds, each with its own peculiarities of price, spoke count, and spacing. Matching things up and building the wheel is part of the fun.

I've been using an old Sturmey AW for my commute bike - and it works, always. But I don't like rim brakes in the winter. So.. when I found that SRAM's version of the same - only with 5 speeds and a drum brake - was going on closeout, I ordered one through my local bike shop. It will probably go on a '74 Schwinn Traveler frame I've been messing with, and will be thoroughly abused this winter. They're supposed to be pretty good. I guess we'll see.
