I think Frank should be allowed. His Overlander is a 1962, my Ambassador is a 1961, but the date on the back of Frank's tub is 17 days earlier than then date I found. I'm having trouble loading pictures, otherwise I'd include one of my dated tub.

I agree, for the same reason, Frank should be allowed. Mine has a date of 11-6-61, Frank's has a date of 10-16-61. I don't know if I have any voting power, haven't seen the club rules.

It all depends on if you want to go by date of production, date of sale, or year by serial number. I had a '95 Chevy van that was built in February of 1996
And yes, I know who Gumby, Pokey, the Blockheads, and Gumbo were...

I have no trailer and no vote and no say, but I still think Frank should be allowed. He's a heck of a guy. If you can find it in your hearts to permit him in, then please do so.
I'll give you all karma...errr... Wallys... errr... THANKS for doing so...

Thank you and karma to you. The date in the photograph if from the back of the mirror and they could have been laying around before they were put in. My other date was on the tub. I did not see it at first, but the day before new years eve, there it was. I thought it was serendipity.....

Thank you and karma to you. I just had to stick my nose in. Anna is plated as a 1962, and 1962 she will stay. I am fine with and well adjusted to the fact she is not a 1961. Just being part of the 1958- 1963 club is enough for me.

I am sorry been in and out these days....just can not seem to throw this pneumonia and it's complications....
Airdreamin - you poor poor poor sweet thing - with no 58-63 Airstream - we all feel for you
Of Course Frank can Play!!!
Ii belive our 61 was actually made in Oct or Nov 1960. I thought it was common practice of Airstream to indicate their serial numbers for the Selling year.
The true 60's plated had a special plate they only made for the 1960 selling year - and has the trim piece around the plate. Well at least that is what I read somewhere - cause I am not that old to remember - but still very forgetful tee hee.
Our little find - which was found not so pretty - had been a "bunk" house at the Alaskan oil Rigs - hence the toilet and plumbing was shot and the front couch removed for 3 sets of steel bunks to take its place.
Not exactly sure how the PO acquired it or why he was in Alaska but he hauled it home to Vermont and rigged it up as an alaborate tent for his wife and 5 children to camp for many fun years.

Hello 61 Overlander Owners!
Neighbor Lady here. Sorry I've been away...and then forgot my password! Anyway, we're making progress here in NC on our "Pearl". Her VIN is 1261T830. I'm posting updated pics for everyone to see. The polishing continues....

Sorry to be picky, but it took three trips to the MVA, four hours and two dozen doughnuts to get it straightened out. The registration may read 1261T830, but the name plate reads "I" 261T830. This is a common mistake and there are a large number Airstream International models titled incorrectly. It won't affect your polishing, but if someday you go to sell and the buyer lives in a state that has a MVA worker who loves his or her job due to the authority over others, well, he just might make it difficult for you to put tags on it. My trailer had been registered for 35 years incorrectly.

Sometimes the "1" at the beginning may actually be a "1".

I would be willing to bet a buck that there is a difference between the 1961 serial number sequence and the 1970 sequence

You would win that bet for certain. However even on the 70's models the first position should be an "I", "E" or an "L". Mine is an International but the "I" must have been off that day. You gotta love these Airstreams!
I know that I am not eligible for the club but I kinda wish I was.

Frank, I agree 100%, it's a common mistake with the early '60's. When I purchased our '61 Overlander(VIN# I261T860) it had a Texas title. The VIN was wrong on the title, it was 1261T860. The two PO's both had it title this way. I brought the Overlander to the Mississippi Highway Patrol & had them verify the VIN. Then the local courthouse employee took that form and wrote down I2611860 & issued a Mississipi title with that number-again, the wrong number. Finally, I got the right VIN on the title. It doesn't take much to title the wrong VIN's on these old AS's, I think because the numbers a so different to current day VIN's.

Mine looks a little closer to the end than the beginning (511 of 553) built in March 1961. No "MF" on my warranty sheet, but a decoder of the wiring colors is also stamped on it.

I finished installing the new Astrodome & frame. Purchased a used frame from ebay, the original frame had been removed by a PO because of hail damage to the Astrodome. Went with the smoke grey from InlandRV--lots of light. The frame had to be shortened about 3/4", but was not hard to do because it was made in 4 pieces. I thought this would be easier than making an Astrodome that fit the frame. I still need to paint the trim.

Looks great, Rick!
I'm delighted to have finally found my trailer, but a bit disappointed that I can't join the '61 Overlanders Club. Since mine's a '63, I don't think I even qualify for the "Frank Exception."
But that's okay, I don't ask to be accepted into the Club, but if you folks wouldn't mind, I'd like to at least hang out at the meetings? I can serve coffee or help with the table linens or whatever...

Well ya know.......
Once you get in you will never get out - and it will only be a matter of time before you will want a second one - and you know that if you do - it will be a 1961 Overlander - especially if we have not found a buyer for her yet tee hee......
Just pullin your chain....
But hey you 61 Overlander Clubbers - I formally relinquish my "Club Status" to the utmost single enthusiastic searcher of a 61 I have ever Seen - :To Marcus and his Family - I knight the Honorary 61 Overlander Club Member....
Really we could just drop the number and call it the Overlander Club - or how about drop the "club all together ( oh not that club tee hee)
But then again all of us who enter the Vintage world really do need to be "Clubbed" don't ya tink!!!

Don't know how I missed the thread up until now- but here is our information:
Our vin is: I261T818
It was incorrectly listed on the title as 1261T818- because as the DMV explained you can not use an I as the first position of the vin and they are commonly titled as having a 1 as the first - same situation with out '59 International- and a PIA to fix!
Ours is Ohio and goes back to the original owner in Ohio.
