Great post! Just my two cents on the bylaws part...

If you're in awe of what used to be -- the foundation, the forming, the adventures, and you join the club for all of that -- just to get your red numbers and be a part of an amazing history...

...and then you find out that modern day leaders, no more permanent than any that have come before them, are out to destroy what has existed for 50+ years prior to their turn at the helm, you're left little choice.

Any member, any unit, any Region President can drop a club altering proposal on this club and with just months or less notice (if it's planned correctly) could have the entire club voting on that very issue.

It's a coordinated plan for change, but if you don't want that change, what are your options?

If you're opposed and want to do something about it, you have NO choice but to study the Club Constitution, the Club Bylaws & Policy, Robert's Rules, and research what has taken place here for the last few years for reference.

DEFINITELY no fun, but necessary.

The only time any of this comes up at my unit's functions is that once a year business meeting in April. Other than that -- it's all about having fun.

As a 21+ year old, if you're thinking about running for office -- you can get the first two as downloads directly at wbcci.org, and you can pick up Roberts Rules for Dummies at any bookstore. If you're going to hold elected office, and you want to do your job, your unit deserves the best that you can give - so start reading...
