Unless you have the 6.0 Vortex V8, you are in fact right about your towing capacity. Even with a change in axle ratio it would not up the weight that much more.
The 6.0 would give you anywhere from 8500# to #11,000 if outfitted right.
You would have to straighten the frame, possible change out trannys etc.
Anyway, that's my 2 cents worth.
