Abe,
The spare is mounted underneath the front portion of the trailer in a semirecessed area of the underbelly. Not sure if A/S makes the recessed area as standard build or just on those rigs with spare tires. The tire drops down via a lever at the front. I just got home getting our rig out of storage for this weekend, so I will take a few pics of the spare and send them to you.

As for the bunk, A/S did offer it as an option, but starting in '03 they discontinued it. A/S did not make many of these (they were all special ordered) . As you can see in our pics, it looks like an overhead locker when closed (the doors actually open into the space so that if you remove the mattress as we did, the area become a huge storage locker. This storage is more than twice the normal front locker space (20" deep, 80" width and 19" high). I have plans to make a shelf unit fitting inside the space to better utilize the area, but have not had time to make it. Being able to lower the front and thereby totally opening the area is a plus (ie vs just the access provided by the doors). While we would not probably have ordered it, we have really been glad the dealer did as it gave us much needed interior storage space.
