Need Help Choosing tires for 04 Suburban

I have a 2004 Suburban that has P265/70R/17 tires on it and would like to upgrade to a tire with a load range D or E rating. Would there be any problems doing that since this has aluminum wheels and I have the electronic air pressure sensors on this Suburban also. Just want to make sure that the wheels won`t crack for any reason or have any other catastrophe by getting a heavier duty tire. I had thought about using a Michelin LTX A/S LR E tire. Thanks Davis

Davis----The pressure sensors work independently of the tire load rating. I'd double check with your tire shop on your wheel strength if you intend to inflate to max load rating pressure with the LR E

Have E rated on our Burb, keep them at 80-85 psi depending on load, my past experience tells me that some of these alloy wheels are porous and might be more prone to leaks at higher pressures. Took them off our Burb,looked like hell after the third Buffalo winter, replaced with powder coated H/D steel. Iv'e heard a lot of good things on your choice of tires, go with E's....you can never be too safe

My advice is to be careful getting the Michelins. Although I'm a great Michelin fan and have used them for years, when I upgraded to heavy load rated tires on my '02 Chevy Avalanche I first went with the Michelins. After getting stuck twice with my 4x4 truck (that has NEVER gotten stuck) I did some research and found out this is a common problem with those particular Michelin tires. They are great on the road but don't ever stray off the road. Fortunately, Discount Tire was very good about giving a full refund and replacing them with B.F. Goodrich tires.

Thanks for the replies. I won`t be off roading any just highway for this burb. I did speak with my dealer today and they said that the wheels should be fine with the heavier duty tires but they are not sure about the tire inflation sensors. They said with the higher air pressure it could cause the on board computer to think there is a problem. They are not sure if that will happen or not.My current tires have a max. air pressure of 44 psi and the LR E tires will have a max air pressure of 70 -80 psi. Maybe someone with the sensors can chime in and share their experience as to whether the sensors will work correctly. Davis

Thanks Bob, My owners manual only lists underinflation of tires that will trigger the lights and warnings to come up. So I might be ok by using the LR E or D tires. I guess there is one to find out and that is to try it. Davis

on my second set of e rated tires, and went with a bridgestone this time...

either (or the m'ltx) will improve your towing experience....

really should weigh the whole mess but until then run 68-70 psi....

do you know which sensor is installed?

just GUESSING, yours will need to be reset/calibrated for the new tires....

my concern with e rated tires is that the valve cores be rated for the higher pressures...

as 2 the wheels, so many models so little time....

stamped on the wheel backs should be info necessary to sort out the specs, this must be routine info on the ge'em forums...

they are likely rated to 90--100 psi,

but the LOAD rating may be an issue, as in less than than those e rated tires, fully inflated.

Do you have LR E tires on your Denali and if so did it change the solo ride quality ? Thanks Davis
