The tambour is a great idea, in theory. Lightweight, wouln't split or crack, has the ability to open up large areas for access. Frankly, Airstream's execution was pretty poor. The bins tend to be very space inefficient, and there is a lot of wasted space in the areas used for spiral rolls.

I have replaced all the tambour in my coach with oak rail and stile doors or with ordinary drawers, except the bathroom cabinet. The tambour there works well, and if it ever causes a problem I will definitely rebuild with new tambour.

Looking to the future, some bright person will figure out someday that travel trailers are not minature houses. Storage in general and cabinets in particular need serious rethinking. The Dean CCD is a step in a new direction, but I am not sure it is quite the path I want to follow.
