Took it to the dealer and the sevice manager made some adjustment behind the mirror without taking it apart , not sure where , that lasted about a month . I noticed they work when it was raining , but not dry . So just for kicks I angled the mirrors all the way in and sprayed it good with silicon , then all the way out and sprayed again . That was 3 years ago and they are still working . I also try to work them once a month for exercise . Try it and let me know if you have the same results . Good luck

That's interesting - re the raining vs dry! This is the first real problem I've had with the mirrors and it happened just after I came home from the car wash. I was thinking that it might have been due to the mirror being wet - as I sprayed it with the high-pressure rinse. Live and Learn! I do exercise the mirrors regularly. For the record - I assume you are referring to the "extension" part of the mechanism. I've never had any problem with the tilt and pan mechanism.
