22' Safari Floorplan for comparison

The previously posted floorplan looked similar to this 22' Safari except it had a crossways bed at the front. A dinette was on the roadside just far enough forward of a single axle position that it may have avoided wheelwell intrusion into the footspace under the dinette. Anybody know this for sure? I also seem to recall the previous posted floorplan having a separate shower at the rear roadside corner -- headroom?? Nah!!!

Pahaska liked the Pano over the bed when he had a 22' CCD and we like ours at the front of our 25' FB SE. It is an individual thing I guess. Airstream has shown a tendency to gradually expand the Special Edition option to the full line of Safaris. The 2nd significant SE advantage is getting the top-hinged full opening windows. I appreciated those on the Argosy and our Safari -- the ventilation is great!

Please post an image of the 20-footer floorplan if you find it anywhere!

Karyn,

My eyes can't read the dimensions of the dinette on this floorplan. Can you tell me what it says? I was thinking that the dinette was about 4" narrower than the front dinette in the 19'. But after looking at the printed brochure I have, I see that some of the dinettes situated on the side (rather than front) are only 1" narrower than the front dinette Bambi. That wouldn't be such a huge difference for the kids.

Thanks for posting the floorplan!

-Jamie

Dinette measurments in New 20' Safari

Hi Jamie,

The dinette measurement is listed as 38"x76" in the 20'.

That's just 2" narrower than listed for the 19'.

I saw the new 20' Bambi last week. We haven't bought yet, because my wife only wants two things in a travel trailer: a bathroom big enough to turn around in, and a full size mattress. The mattress was too narrow to her liking in the 20' and she says the people at Airstream "just don't get it."

Don't get the whole thing...

Guess I don't get the whole 'new model, I GOTTA trade' thing....

But then I have no where to go with my 34' as far as bigger goes.... Unless I am going to something other than AS...

And that ain't happening...! Guess I'll sit here and watch the fun!

Happy trading! Hope 'ya get what 'ya want this time!

peace

We would LOVE a 19' Bambi with the 16' layout

We would LOVE to be able to buy a 19' Bambi with the 16' layout and real bed space.
An extra 15" in the back would allow for either a curved semi-queen bed (60" x 78") or a 'real' rectangular double bed (54" x 75").
An extra 8" in the dinette (to 48") would yield a 'three quarters' bed for our 2 kids as well as giving us a bit more room when we eat.
And the last 13" would make the wet bath more spacious and add to the wardrobe and/or kitchen space.

We ended up going with a 16' quiksilver bambi for a number of reasons...we love the panoramic windows over our bed and the color scheme. But it seemed really odd to us that to get better sleeping arrangements for us and our two small kids in an AS we would have had to leap up to a 28' or 30' trailer.

I would think that we would be one of AS's 'core' target groups - a couple with two kids who want to take them places. We don't want to live in our AS - we want to sleep, have breakfast, go out to see what we traveled to see, maybe come back for dinner maybe not, and go to sleep again.

would also love the 16' layout in a 19'

I'm torn between the 19' and the 16'. Love the 16' layout, but would also like separate (and larger) waste tanks, a larger wet bath, and a bit more space. I probably will end up with a 16' for the panoramic windows....

Hello WithChild -- and welcome to the Forums! Now that has to be a unique user name. There is a 19' Safari that is available in the Special Edition. I believe this would give it a front pano window. It'd really help if you saw the models. You might see problems with one or the other. I know they had both a 16' and a 19' at the Mpls Convention Center RV show middle of last February. The 16' bed is only 4' wide but is longer. The 19' bed is very short on the outer wall due to the curved rear corner. And yes, the 16' has very limited floor space!

Wanna see a 16'

Thanks for the welcome. I have yet to be inside of a 16'. I can't find one anywhere locally. I guess I'll have to meet someone and request a tour. I notice you are in St. Cloud...do you have a place at the Airstream park near there?

Negative on the Airstream park. I prefer to travel, not park. We can't store trailers in our neighborhood but I have found good interior storage 5 miles away for our Safari. At least I can bring it to the house to load up before a trip.

Hello WithChild
About the Airstream Park, its worth stopping in and taking a look. There are many diffrent trailers and everyone seems willing to give a tour. My wife and I bought a lot up there this summer and we really enjoyed it.Welcome to the Forum

Aria -- It's the same bed as the 16' trailers -- 48' wide (close to a standard double bed) but much better than the corner beds in a 19' in my opinion. I have very good friends headed for a 20-footer. They were worried about the darkness inside but finally saw one at a dealer -- very bright with two windows over the roadside dinette and a pano window up front with the Special Edition.

We have camped often in 30 degree weather with our Special Edition. I don't feel the metal interior is any different in regard to comfort in cold weather. It does show film on the interior metal from cooking fumes, etc., but these deposits are there anyway with other interior finishes.

With the current 19 Bambis, the short person on the curbside only has to climb over the tall sleeper's legs/feet to get out of bed. In the sideways beds, that path is over the center of the bed and taller sleeper. I don't care for that.

When the Apple Macintosh first came out, it had an inadequate 128 KILObytes of memory. Not long after, Apple upgraded it to 512 kb, which became known as the "Fat Mac."

IMO, that's what JC needs to do with the 19' Bambi--an 8-1/2' wide "Fat Bambi" with 54" wide berth and roomier dinette with more storage on each side. While they're at it, ditch the head sink for some counterspace in the galley, like in the Anniversary, but keep the bigger refrigerator on the curbside.

hi withchild and welcome to the forums...

while i too like the 16 layout, be very careful about buying either a 16 or a 22...

why?

these are the only 2 models that get osb boards for the flooring...

all the other are plywood...marine grade i think.

the osb is fine until it gets wet...

this is not a 'if' but 'when' thing...

you will have water inside at some point....

condensation, rain, leaking plumbing and so on....

so given where you live, i'd opt for a 19 or 23

cheers

Thanks, 2air, for the welcome and the advice. So many things to consider. I knew nothing of the floor differences...sigh...

If the 19's in the future have a layout more like the 75th, it may be worth the wait. I'm also thinking about the bunk option available on the 19'. I worry about the ventilation, though (I understand that the window on that side becomes un-openable.

Good post 2air I didn't know about the flooring differences between models. Although after the fact for us, that's awesome info for a potential buyer.

I went to the factory recently and the tour guy said they still use osb boards instead of plywood for the 16' CCDs because they can use one piece of lumber for the floor - and that the benefits of having the floor be one solid piece outweighted the negative of it not being marine grade.

Don't know if it is true...it's just what they said.

enjoy,
leo

PS He also said that they weren't making any more 22'ers.
