Here's another scam listing (click here). Click on the seller's other listings. There are 20 big boats, tractors, trailers listed. This seller has had his 'handle' hijacked big time!!! Check the hijacked sellers feedback (slnspwn) and look at his item sold/bought listing. I didn't see any trailers, tractors, or boats listed.

How do you prevent/stop this type of hijacking?

Take care,

N.B. In the time it took me to write to Ebay and this note the listing was pulled!!! (10 minutes, max!) As were all of the other listings under his name.

Too late to see it, Ebay pulled the listing....
The only thing you can do to prevent these sams is to report them to Ebay as you find them. It's alot like trying to put out a forest fire with a garden hose. The good news is that they are easy to spot. The scams are almost always the same and the scammers are not the brightest bulb on the string. Here are the things that I see on almost every scam
  • A buy now price in the listing, but not a buy now with ebay
  • A short listing (2 days on average)
  • Not listed in the trailer area
  • Free shipping
  • A price too low to be true
  • Price listed in Euro dollars but says xxxx $ US in the listing
  • My ebay mail goes to my junk mail and I am too stupid to figure out how to fix it!

Ebay Airstream Scams

These listings are on Ebay every day. The offer Airstreams at extremely low "buy it now" prices. This is not a real buy it now as it is not shown at the top of the listing with the bid price. The seller ID is stolen. These people are common thieves try to steal money. I have tried to contact Ebay about these listings and all I get is automated responses. Ebay does not seem to care about thieves who operate openly on the site.

CAUTION: ANY EBAY LISTING THAT ASKS THAT YOU NOT CONTACT THE SELLER THROUGH EBAY, BUT BY DIRECT EMAIL IS A SCAM.

Also check the category under which the trailer is listed, because they apparently use the defaul category of the hijacked seller ID. I saw one yesterday listed under "Houseplants" or some such.

Amazingly, in a quick walk-through today, I didn't see ANY Airstream scams ...

the folks at ebay delete these on a regular basis. I always report them, following the links thru to the emait link where you can add a quick line about why they are obviously fraudulent. They removed a bunch yesterday from one wacko.
EBAY is so huge, by hiding these in uncommon, misplaced categories they can slip by for awhile undetected.

I received an email from a seller in England wanted to know if I was interested in buying his Airstream. He sent me the url to the eBay auction. It was a 2005 CCD for US $3990, buy it now. So, I knew it was fake, but I bid anyway. Within a half an hour I get a email from eBay stated that the auction and all the information was pulled. eBay is on the ball on somethings, but I did lose some money that I am still out of with PayPal.

I just reported a bunch to eBay (do all of you realize that on the 3rd page you have to hit "Contact us by email" to complete the report? For a long time I thought I was finished after the first 2 pages so wasn't actually reporting anything) ... and then snapped off a quick note to the seller as usual. He just sent me a thank-you note, my first among all the sellers I've tried to help out!

the guy said he'd been tagged with more than 70 fake auctions. "yikes!" he said.

I have been having fun with these guys for a while now. I don't just restrict myself to Airstreams. I probably did about 30 today that were scams. I always bid on the item then I know when ebay pulled it. I often email the scammer also to tell them they were reported. I have stopped doing so now because it takes too much more time. One scammer asked me if I could stop for one night, please. Another simply said F*** y**. I find it rather amusing.

OMGosh, how much money did you loose? I hope it wasn't the $3990! Please tell me it was just the deposit.

Fwiw ...

... this is the note I got from a seller after I alerted him to the scamster auctions. Despite his shock, he was impressed by the Airstream photos! Maybe we'll have an unintended convert:

Thanks again Theresa. I've ended all ~70 of the fake auctions and changed my passwords. I haven't gotten any suspicious ebay-related emails lately either, but I'll definitely be more vigilant now. Paypal appears untouched too. I did get an unexpected login prompt while browsing some auctions today, and perhaps that's how they got me, but i'm not sure how they could have redirected a link from a list of auctions within ebay. I've been a casual ebayer for over eight years now, and this is the first time i've been scammed. Hopefully this will be the last time too.

Those Airstream trailers are pretty spiffy looking though!

What is our liability if we bid on a fraudulent listing? And are we going to cost the real ebayer money?

I reported 4 tonight at 6 p.m. but they're still up. The poor legit seller has 71 fake auctions up along with the 8 normal auctions posted under her name; is she on the hook for the listing & selling fees?

The spoofed seller is not on the hook for auction fees, but it is a pita to have this happen.
You need all new passwords for you personal e-mail, as well as new paypal and ebay passwords.
Someone baggedmy account a while back, and it was a major nuisance.
Actually kept me from ebay for quite a while.
Why don't these a-hole scam artists find a new hobby...

As P.T. Barnum never said: "There's a sucker born every minute".

Unfortunately these scammers will continue to play as long as it continues to pay.

Keep up the guard and keep shutting them down and maybe they'll move on to another scam.

Well the ebay vendor who got hijacked knows it's a scam and even posted something on the ad itself. I'm not sure if it's still up but it won't be for long at this point since he has reported it now.

Well I just checked and its gone.
