I just read that Netflix (the online movie rental place) has been going around the country doing a "road show". They show a movie outdoors that is significant to that particular geographical location.
Sunday, August 20th they will be showing "Raising Arizona" at the Lost Dutchman State park, here in Arizona. However, here's the interesting part; before the movie they're going to have a scavenger hunt and the winning team wins a vintage Airstream trailer, like the one from the movie. The scavenger hunt starts at 1pm and goes until 7pm.
This sounds really cool. Teams can be as many people as will fit in one car. Any fellow Arizonians up for an Airstreamforums team?

Now that sounds like alot of fun. Hope its no too hot. The picture in the website shows a Spartan and not an Airstreasm though. Wonder if that's the one. OK, who's got a '50's lead sled that we can fit in a dozen people?

I did notice that the picture was of a Spartan, too. But if I recall correctly the trailer from the movie was an old Airstream. The contest does specifically say "Vintage Airstream"... although I guess a Spartan would be cool too.
I'm trying to get a guy up in Eagar, AZ to sell me his 1959 Cadillac Ambulance, but currently just have my Jeep Grand Cherokee

Ankornuta, Flyfshr.....I've got a Grand Marquis....bought it a couple of years ago when I had my business in Tucson and did the 100 mile Mexican Highway drive (also known as the I-10 for out-of staters) several times a week…the speed limit is 100 mph or so it would seem that is how fast some people drive…You’re more likely to get pulled over by border patrol than highway patrol….. The Marquis is a modern day lead sled it drives like a big fat leather couch... it’s no wonder they're so popular with the retired folks.. So back to my point….I'd love to do the scavenger hunt that would be a blast! But we're going camping in Flagstaff this weekend...Ankornuta...off topic again….so what's your story you appear to have an affinity for things from 1959..didn't you say your "new" home was built in the late 50's I'd love to see that Caddy very cool..

Wow, that car sounds awesome! Too bad you're going to be out of town.
On the other note, I do indeed have an affinity for objects from the late 50's. There's a lot about that time period which really appeals to me, ever since I was a kid (even though I was born in the late 70's). It was such a heyday for design. Everything from the way people dressed to the iconic tail lights of the '59 cadillac, it seems that it was a truly remarkable time. There was an exuberant optimism (and quite a bit of naievity) in the populace and that seems to have bled through into the zeitgeist.
So yeah, the new house was built in 1959, the trailer is a '58, the car I'm trying to get is a '59 and my home decor is slowly becoming like a snapshot of a modern home in the late 50s.

Hey guys,
I'm going to be talking with the Netflix folks about their promotion on Friday 8/25 for theVAP.
I still need to watch the Raising Arizona movie between now and then.
Does anyone know what model and year the airstream was in that movie?
Did anyone from the forums participate in the savenger hunt?
Give me some ideas of questions to ask.....
Thanks!

I was going to be in the hunt, but this is what happened.
I sent my email to join,
Four days later they stopped people from entering,
The next day they said the first 40 were in (I was not)
I have been flooded with SPAM since I joined.
Please tell them what I think of their email address gatherings...
I will not be renewing my Netflix subscription.......

No, the whole thing was handled in such an unprofessional manner, we stayed home. I did not see any local media coverage for the event either. It is a shame, the movies is one of my favorites. Did you know that the role of H.I. (Nicolas Cage) was offered to Keven Cosner. He turned the part down.

Raising
So many great lines from that movie...here's one:
You want to find an outlaw, hire an outlaw. You want to find a Dunkin' Donuts, call a cop.
