Yuki....That's looking great! You've got a real gem!! Hope your definately wearing some sort of respirator pulling up those tiles...pulled tiles out of my grandparents early 60's house and they were asbestos tiles..be careful how you discard them also...can get in trouble for improperly disposing of them.

If you were putting down a pergo type laminate, a good quality underlayment would prob cover most of the uneveness. Maybe a belt sander would do the trick to help you smooth it out...I have one sitting around if you want to borrow it.

First time I've looked at your thread. Your Bambi II looks really great. I guess I'll have to polish our Bambi. Somethings are just meant to be. We are in the process of getting a new axle for ours at the moment. After the Silver Falls, Or trip I re checked the axle and found the the right side had collapsed. I was unable to put my little finger between the swing arm and the stop on the frame. I don't want to damage our trailer after all the work. I would like to see more pictures of the interior of you trailer, if you have the time.

Don't use a grinder or belt sander to remove the old adhesive. The adhesive probably contains asbestos.

You may want to use a leveling comound, such as this: http://www.ardex.com/prod-sdl-inst.htm

I used a belt sander to level out all those rough spots. Went around looking for possible soft spots...treated any suspect with Git-Rot from West Marine, filled low areas with leveling compound then belt sanded lightly again. Then I used a high quality underlayment. Ued Pergo flooring like many others here.
FYI....Home Depot puts out all reduced price items ...like opened pkgs, returned items and (the one I like best) unclaimed special orders, in the A.M.
A quick check early saved me nearly 60% on my Pergo. It took a full three boxes to do the 66 Caravel...with one board left over. Have fun.

Edit......Remember...the Pergo raises the floor level. I had to cut out the freshly laid Pergo under the water tank because the filler spout no longer aligned. Everything else was manageable.

We had a similar experience with the floor in our Caravel, and we used sealer/adhesive remover to pull up the black stuff. It worked great - softened everything up so that it could be easily scraped with a putty knife.

Here are three photos of the interior as we found it when we picked up the trailer. I will post resto photos later on this summer once we finish the floor and finish putting the interior back to together.

Thanks for the pictures. Our Bambi and your Bambi II are similiar, however the extra length puts your kitchen on the stree side ours is in the back. What exactly is the layour of the back of your trailer.

Post #3 above has a photo of the back of the interior. Directly in the center of the rear is a bathroom sink with the furnace underneath. On the streetside is the wet bathroom; on the curbside is a closet.

We are trying hard to finish as much of the Bambi II restoration prior to our upcoming Region One rally where we will be showing it off during the vintage open house. I spent a good 20 hours this past weekend sewing curtains and will be dreaming about pinch pleated drapes for awhile! Hubby finished the plumbing repairs/renovation while I was busy sewing so we now can pump water, draw water (hot and cold), shower, etc.

The second round of buffing is completed. I was amazed at how most of the swirls, which were left behind by the first cut, now disappeared.

The floor is almost ready for its final application of Marmoleum. I leveled and patched the floor this week using a portland cement based compound.

In the far right corner (in the shower stall) is a portable A/C unit which has been working hard all week to keep the humidity level low in preparation for laying the Marmoleum. I'm also acclimating the tile to the "environment" as recommended by the manufacturer.

Got a question for ya

How do you light the water heater with original cover on? I assume its a self lighting heater?

I used plumbers tape on my cover (I'm trying to keep the original too) I don't think its a long term solution - do you know how hot it gets? I was thinking about using some rubber weatherseal with that sticky backing if it doesn't get too hot....

No, it is not a self lighting heater. The water heater cover consists of two parts. The first part is the one that is attached directly to the outside of the Airstream using butyl tape and screws. The second part is a removable cover that attaches to the more permanent cover. The removable cover is easily removed for the purpose of manually lighting the pilot. I will post more detailed photos once we put it all back together.

Ahh - a lightbulb went off in my head - I remember on the 63 Globe that I used to own, the bottom half was removable.

On my 58 both top and bottom are screwed in place - so I'll need to figure out how to make the bottom half removable. - I remember when I first saw this panel I thought it was really ugly - now I think it looks pretty cool and I really want to keep it.

Yes I would like to see more pictures - I think that will help me alot

We installed the Marmoleum 13" tiles on the floor. We butted the tiles up against the cabinets along the galley side of the trailer. On all the other sides, we were able to remove the gauchos so the Marmoleum goes underneath the gauchos.

Wow, I'm so excited to find all this Bambi II advice that I'm getting lightheaded! I need all the help I can get!!! I have a laundry list of questions but my immediate concern is I think I've lost my VIN# paperwork (If I ever had it). Is it on the Bambi anywhere? Mine is in the shop so I can't investigate personally. (She just got a new axle, ugh, and new gas lines and more. This is definately a bigger project than I anticipated but I'm addicted and won't stop till she's beautiful again!). I'll work on getting some pictures posted.
