Now it is not an even 1,000!
Do I get to make an acceptance speech to my fans and members of the Aluminum Academy for this honor?
You guys did all of this just to get me to make it 1,001!
Thank you for all of the wonderful compliments.
If you go through all 1,000 posts you will see that 750 of them are on the LPPI rallies or get-togethers!
As for the likeness to Stevie Y, I must say we are both VERY handsome men! Although, he looks more like Mom then I do.
So, are we gonna plan a rally with this thread or what guys?
Let's hear all of the ideas.

Rally
I think Hartwick Pines has some full hookup sites now, I think DNR updated the park last year or so, like they did Sterling State Park in Monroe. It would be a nice location for a rally.

Michigan State Parks
The Michigan State Parks charge a daily user fee to all the out of state folks like us. Sometimes it makes them more expensive than the private ones.

That's not a good thing then. Lou can you post a link for the campground in Grayling? What month are we thinking of having the first rally?

Lou is right. Everytime you come and go in a Michigan State Park everyone has to pay, even if you are already set up and camping. Unless you do not leave the park except for your first day.
Last year's annual pass cost me somewhere around $25 for each vehicle. It costs something like $30-35 for out of state visitors. If you pay by the day it is something like $6/day for an entrance fee for residents and more for non-residents.
I just looked and the camping fees for Hartwick it $33/night too. There are 33 full hook-up pull through sites.
I would like to try something closer to the Ohio border to make it easier for the Ohio contingent of the LPPI to be able to drive it in a few hours or so.
There was one private campground, Totem Pole, that I was thinking of driving down to look at sometime soon. I was hoping I could convice Carol to go with me so we could have it properly documented with photographs!
Can anyone think of any other campgrounds near the Ohio/Michigan border that they have been to or may want to try?

The first rally would be sometime in July. Late July would be my guess.

Metro Detroit Get together
Hello folks , this is Andy Neumann
As well as being a Charter member of the Metro Detroit Chapter of the LPPI
I am also a past prez of the Metro Detroit Chapter of the WBCCI
We are having a Spring Shakedown Buddy Rally next month, and I would like to invite anyone interested to attend.
I know that this is short notice, but it seems like everyone is eager to get camping and this may tie you over till LOUPALLOZA 2.0.
This is a buddy rally so membership in the WBCCI is not required. The desire to have a good time would be appreicated.
The Metro Detroit unit is composed of mostly working folks so our rallies tend to be a bit more relaxed than some, We have been known to consume adult beverages and even have campfires. Blue Berets are a rare sight at our rallies but I will wear mine if thats what people want.
Our rally will be April 28 , 29 and 30. We will be camping at Walnut Hills which is near the town of Durand MI, west of Flint south of I69. We also have and optional tour and lunch at the historic Durand Union Station, which happends to be the Michigan Railroad Muesume.
I am attempting to attach the flyers but If you are interested please PM me or drop me an Email.
This event in no way takes the place of an official LPPI rally, there is no way I can compete with LOU.

More from Detroit
Just saw this from TCT about traveling in Detroit. The really funny part is that it is absolutely true!
You need to know the following about Detroit.
1. First, you must learn to pronounce the city name. It's Deh-troit. NOT DEEtroit.
If you pronounce it DEE-Troit then we will assume you are from Toledo
and here for the country Music hoedown.
2. Forget the traffic rules you learned elsewhere. Detroit has its own version
of traffic rules... Hold on and pray!
3. The morning rush hour is from 6:00 am to 10:00 am. The evening rush
hour is from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Friday's rush hour starts Thursday morning.
Weekends are open game.
4. If you actually stop at a yellow light, you will be rear-ended, cussed out and
possibly shot. If you're first off the starting line when the light turns green,
count to five before going across the intersection. This will avoid getting in the
way of cross-traffic who just ran their yellow light to keep from getting shot.
5. Construction and renovation on I-94, I-96, I-75, I-275, I-375, The Lodge
and The Southfield Freeways are a way of life and forever. Just deal with it.
6. If someone actually has their turn signal on, it is probably a factory defect
or they are "out-of-towners"
7. All old men (or women) with white hair wearing a hat have total right-ofway.
8. The minimum acceptable speed on I-696 and I-275 is 85 regardless of the
posted speeds. Anything less is considered downright SISSY. Oh, and don't
even think of allowing more than one car length between cars!
9. I-275 and I-696 are our daily version of NASCAR.
10. That's not a lake; it's a pothole.
11. The Michigan left turn is simple. If you want to turn left, go a 1/4 of a mile
past your turn, get to the left, then make a left, then make another left, then
make a right when you get back to the intersection where you wanted to turn
left in the first place. NOW you have gone left.

Oh, do not worry! Carol and I have a habit of finding hapless victims unaware of our plans to recruit them into the LPPI!
I also like to have people do "stuff" too! I really like it when people do "stuff" with "things"!

M-D Shakedown & TCT
Lorrie and I want to haul up to the Metro-Detroit Unit Shakedown Rally in Durand, sans Airstream (i.e. without Airstream in tow) for the day on Saturday and spend some time with all y'all, see the Train Station and have lunch there. Hope to see many of you there.
We are also considering the Tin Can Tourist's event in Milford. It should be really cool seeing all of those old trailers, if we do. It would be great if there was a good contingent of LPPI there.

I have the same game plan as Joe. Daytripping to the luncheon at the depot if I can, then camping out at the TCT rally. Then we should all head on over to the LPPI rally and we will be set!

Michigan side?
Are you thinking the Michigan side? or Ohio side? There are several campgrounds in the Toledo area, but we have not stayed at any of them. What dates are we thinking?
