A good sheet metal shop should be able to make you a replacement box of galvanized steel if there is enough left to measure.
The tank in my A/S is surrounded bottom and sides by 1" of styrofoam insulation. Probably a good thing to distribute the load and prevent wear spots between tank and metal.
