In the old days it would be done with a coat or three of Carnuba Paste Wax.
A lot of work but you get a nice deep satin glow from the wood.
You will have to clean the wood using something like Murphy's oil soap.
Paste wax enough coats to get the deep look of the wood. Then you can maintain it over the year using Lemon Oil, rubbed dry.
Wood workers in general put the Poo Poo on Pledge because it will leave a coat of gook that collects dirt.
