You want the blade to be rotating "down" towards the colored laminate surface to minimize chipping, with a table saw the color side is up, with a circular saw you want it down. I don't recomend sabre saws they will usually chip no matter which side is up
The shears and the scoring knife are excellent low cost alternatives.
